The City. The Need. Loving Our Neighbors.

Metro Detroit is a mosaic of people and cultures: from the South Asian Indians in Farmington, Chinese in Madison Heights, Arabs in Dearborn, Bangladeshi in Hamtramck and Japanese in Novi. Each culture brings with it their restaurants, grocery stores, customs and beliefs.

In the midst of this mosaic, new refugees have come who are trying to find their place. They are learning English, working hard to make ends meet and make this foreign place their home. This process often involves a lot of misunderstanding, loneliness and hurt.

In the midst of this situation, we desire to love our new immigrants neighbors just as Jesus taught in the parable of the Good Samaritan. Through love that listens, sits for tea, helps with practical needs and empowers people, we see lives transformed…. ours and our new neighbors.

Hope International Center

We are working with the Hope International Center to meet some of the practical needs of the refugee community through classes and group activities. Currently, we are offering English and citizenship classes as well as youth events at the center.

Cultural Coaching

Bringing dignity and purpose to a person happens when we take the time to listen, encourage and empower people to be all that God desires them to be. Our cultural coaches do this one person at a time.

Community Events

Community events, whether a Thanksgiving celebration or Summer picnic, are a great time to make new friends and explore new customs. Bringing people together from different cultures also breaks down barriers of misunderstanding and builds trust. This trust, in turn, builds bridges that can transform people and communities.
